[10-24-26] Two Hospitalized With Serious Injuries After I-25 Crash at Colorado Blvd

A crash involving two motorists occurred on northbound Interstate 25 at Colorado Boulevard in Denver late Wednesday, leaving two people with serious injuries and prompting police to urge drivers to find another way around the area.

The Denver Police Department said it was investigating the crash involving the two motorists at the interchange, according to a post from the Denver Police Dept on X. The department said two people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries and advised drivers to expect delays in the area, recommending alternate routes while crews worked the scene.

Why Police Flagged This One

Not every fender-bender in Denver generates a public alert. The department’s crash notifications come with a standing disclaimer explaining the threshold for going public: a Crash Alert is only issued if at least one involved person sustains serious injuries or the crash results in road closures. That bar was met in the I-25 and Colorado Boulevard collision, underscoring the severity of the injuries reported at the scene.

Beyond the injury count and the general location, details remain scarce. What caused the crash, which lanes were affected, how long delays lasted, and the conditions of the two people taken to the hospital have not been released.

A Stretch of Highway With a Recent Track Record

The crash adds to a string of serious incidents along the same corridor in recent memory. A separate crash with serious injuries near northbound I-25 at 20th Street created delays for early-morning commuters, and in that incident one person died, according to Denver7. In a separate, unrelated case near the same 20th Street stretch, a wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, per CBS News Colorado’s reporting.

Denver police have also responded to serious-injury crashes elsewhere in the city this year, including one at 9th and Colorado Boulevard, where officers arrived just after 5 a.m. and warned drivers to expect delays during the investigation and cleanup, according to CBS News Colorado. None of those earlier incidents has been confirmed to be connected to the crash at I-25 and Colorado.

Tracking the Bigger Picture

Denver maintains an open dataset of motor vehicle crashes reported to its police department, covering the current year alongside the previous five calendar years within the city and county, with the data updated on an ongoing basis, per data.colorado.gov. At the state level, the Colorado Department of Transportation has built performance dashboards tracking reported crashes on public roadways statewide, aimed at identifying patterns in crash causes, types and locations to guide safety improvements, according to codot.gov.

No further updates on the condition of the two people hospitalized, the cause of the crash, or the status of lane closures at I-25 and Colorado Boulevard had been released as of this report.

DENVER MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Motorcycle crashes are among the most dangerous types of traffic accidents because riders have little protection when a collision occurs. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 6,228 motorcyclists were killed in traffic crashes nationwide in 2024. Motorcyclists accounted for 16% of all traffic fatalities that year.

The risks are especially significant in Colorado. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 165 motorcyclists were killed on Colorado roads in 2024, the highest number ever recorded in the state. Motorcycle fatalities accounted for nearly one-quarter of all Colorado traffic deaths, even though motorcycles represented only about 3% of registered vehicles.

Colorado also recorded 774 serious bodily injury crashes involving motorcycles in 2024. Of the motorcyclists killed that year, 44% were not wearing a helmet.

Motorcycle deaths declined in 2025, when Colorado recorded 148 fatalities. Even with that decrease, motorcycle crashes remain a significant safety concern across the state.

Denver riders face many of the same risks as motorcyclists throughout Colorado, particularly on busy urban roads and highways. Common factors that can contribute to motorcycle crashes include:

  • Speeding
  • Impaired driving
  • Distracted driving
  • Failure to yield
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Following too closely
  • Drivers failing to see a motorcycle
  • Dangerous road or weather conditions
  • Inexperienced or unsafe riding

Colorado also allows limited motorcycle lane filtering under a law that took effect in 2024. Motorcyclists may pass between vehicles under certain conditions when surrounding traffic is stopped. Lane splitting between moving vehicles remains illegal.

If you or someone you love has been injured in a motorcycle crash, a Denver motorcycle accident lawyer can investigate what happened and help determine who may be responsible.
