[10-24-26] Hit-and-Run Near Bruce Randolph and Colorado Blvd Leaves One Hospitalized

A pedestrian was left with serious injuries Thursday morning after a hit-and-run crash near East Bruce Randolph Avenue and North Colorado Boulevard in Denver, prompting police to urge drivers to steer clear of the area while they investigate. The person struck was rushed to a hospital, and officers warned commuters to expect delays and seek alternate routes through the busy intersection.

The Denver Police Department said it is investigating the crash, describing it as involving a motorist and a pedestrian, according to a Denver Police Dept post on X Thursday morning. The department confirmed that one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries following the collision near the East Bruce Randolph and North Colorado intersection.

Police Warn of Delays, Urge Alternate Routes

Along with the crash report, the department advised the public to expect delays in the area and to use alternate routes while the investigation continues, per the same post. No further details on the driver, the vehicle involved, or whether anyone has been arrested were included in the department’s alert.

Denver police maintain a standing policy on when they publicize traffic incidents like this one. The department’s crash-alert disclaimer states that it will only issue a public Crash Alert if at least one involved person sustains serious injuries or the crash results in road closures.

A Stretch of Road With Prior Tragedy

North Colorado Boulevard has been the site of serious pedestrian crashes before. In an earlier post, Denver Police Dept. reported investigating a fatal traffic crash in the 3400 block of North Colorado Boulevard involving a motorist and a pedestrian, in which an adult female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not confirmed whether that earlier incident is connected to Thursday’s crash near Bruce Randolph.

Citywide, Denver tracks serious and fatal crashes through its Vision Zero Crash Data Dashboard, which shows such incidents dating back to 2013 and updates daily on weekdays, according to the City and County of Denver. The dashboard offers a broader view of how frequently crashes like Thursday’s hit-and-run occur across the city, even as the specifics of this case remain under investigation.

Denver’s Vision Zero plan sets a goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030. The city’s comprehensive plan also notes a disparity in the earlier data it cites: people walking and rolling made up 5% of commute trips but 38% of traffic deaths. The figures put pedestrian crashes in a broader safety context, while leaving investigators to determine what happened at Bruce Randolph Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. DENVER PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT STATISTICS

Pedestrian crashes remain a serious safety problem across the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,080 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes nationwide in 2024. More than 71,000 pedestrians were also injured.

The problem is significant in Colorado as well. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, 120 pedestrians were killed on Colorado roads in 2024. Denver recorded 18 pedestrian fatalities that year, the second-highest total among Colorado counties.

Visibility is an important factor in many pedestrian crashes. CDOT reports that 78 pedestrian fatalities in Colorado occurred when it was dark in 2024, representing 65% of all pedestrian deaths that year.

The longer-term trend also remains concerning. In 2025, the state of Colorado recorded 127 pedestrian fatalities. Between 2020 and 2025, Denver County alone recorded 140 pedestrian deaths, more than any other state county during that period.

Pedestrians have little physical protection when struck by a motor vehicle. Even a collision at a relatively low speed can cause traumatic brain injuries, fractures, spinal injuries, internal injuries, or other life-changing harm.

Common factors that can contribute to pedestrian crashes include:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Impaired driving
  • Failure to yield
  • Unsafe turns
  • Poor visibility
  • Failure to obey traffic signals
  • Drivers failing to watch for pedestrians at intersections and crosswalks

If you or someone you love has been injured while walking, a Denver pedestrian accident attorney can investigate what happened and help determine who may be responsible.
